touchpad cursor jumps on its own with my hp dv6000

normal updates (i.e.. updating Firefox and/or anti-virus/malware/spyware programs)

My mouse cursor will jump vertically on its own for two to five minutes regardless if I am typing or not.  Sometimes it will move even if I am touching the touch pad or not. 

I can still select items, but only if its in the cursor's "jumping area" (I have to press my finger on the touch pad and use my other finger to press the left click button), but I am unable to scroll or do anything else while this happens.  Restarting the computer is only a temporary solution, it will start jumping again randomly at any time.

This problem happened about a month ago, lasted for awhile, stopped and recently reappeared.  The only thing I did differently this time was update to the most current Firefox, I don't remember what I did the last time this happened.

I have tried looking for solutions online, but it seems that my problem is pretty unique.  The troubleshooting I've tried was going into Mouse Properties and trying to troubleshoot from there, but every time I try to go into Device Settings, it stops responding and goes white.  I tried rolling back and updating the drivers, but nothing seems to work. 

Help, please.

My laptop is also a hp dv6000 and does exactly the same thing.  Did you find anything to help except for going back in history?

My cursor also jumps around when using the three-part touch pad. Less so when using a mouse.

As I am typing, also, suddenly the text jumps to a previous line or a previous place in the line I'm typing on.
