how can I delete this from a usb flash stick, I have tried the normal method with out joy the data is obsolete now

I don't have a "for sure" answer either.
Have you tried, not to delete the data, but just hit the stick with a "format"?
Maybe, as Administrator, you could dump a huge file into the stick - just overwrite it.

tried formating and get this " windows was unable to complete this function " and when I try overwriting it I get this " cant read from source file or disc "

plug into mac, and format the usb stick.

Use Unlocker. This software will let you to delete everything that you need.
Download and run it. Next browse to folder which you want to delete. Change no action to delete and approve your choice.

downloaded unlocker as advised tried again to delete and format still not allowed to delete anything from the stick

I'd trash that stick.
At this point, even if you find a way to get to it, I'm not sure you could ever trust it again.
