Hello,
I have an xp pro that has an apparent windows installer issue. I get this error message that I believe says "taplugin missing" it is on a removable disc or cd that I should install and reinstall the file..someplacce else said the windows installer was not there...very confusing. Isearched the web and other places t no avail re this error message and finally found the 4.5 windows installer version at Microsoft (thank you microsoft)..I installd it to my desktop but of course it failed due to installer issues. LOL So, what do I do??
BTW This pc came with 2 Tb of sata drives and some idiot (mois) decided it a good idea to break up the drives.. I now have two 200_ and two 900+ drives (4 drives) that I need to reparticion, and no I do not know how but woudl trust instructions from you guys. I have instructions from folks I know but trust YOU...am afraid to trust fully anyone else...I bought another external Western Digital 2 Tb drive for this purpose but do not want to back up the info with these corruptions on it. so what to do?
I could copy my photos (ama writer and photographer among other things but have a million photos) many need to be deleted..and then put in the xp cd and when it says repair do that but it does not do it just like that...it is really confusing but it does not let you just repair files as everyone tells me. I tried it...I don;t know but this has me insane. I have a show at the library very soon and nened this pc very badly. I have two other laptops but they are also screwed up (one has not installed updates since 910-9-2009) and one is missing updates in chunks) very weird) Point is I have been trying very hard to get help to no avail. Can't afford to send them for help. One pc has warranty but haven't checked into that yet. I raelly have been working my butt off trying to fix these. I am desperate so if anyone can help or make it easier, please do. Thank you in advance. Cher

What version of windows are you trying to install XP on? Currently only Windows7 proffessional will only install it.

Hello, and thanks so much for replying! I only want to repartition the drives back to make c drive larger not change the OS so it will still be XP Professional. I don't want to upgrade it as I have two vista laptops; a 32 and a 64 bit. If I change my xp OS then lots of software won't install and it would be cost prohibitive. I wish I didn't have to uninstall and reinstall it period, but whatever it takes as long as I have instructions I trust I will be glad to do it in order to get this back on track. That error message scares me and the full c drive does as well. I never should have had them break up the drives like that. I don't even know how I can recombine them eg can the 900+ GB be combined with the 200+ Gb drive, eg what aer the options for combining? Or shoudl I be concentrationn on getting rid of that windows installer error mesage first> I tried installing 4.5 version by d/l to my desktop first (I didn;t know if I shoudl b/u the system first or waht with the corruption) then decided to just install it and it wouldn't..combo of no room in c drive and no installer or corrupt installer I suppose. cher
