1966 sheets or just 4 reams of paper. Reasonable lifespan for printer?

Hiya,

 

I was just wondering if I'm being unreasonable in being disappointed with the lifespan of my C4280 printer, failing after just 1966 sheets of mostly printing text docs?

 

Printer made horrible grinding noise followed by repeated false carriage jam. Small piece of plastic has broken off just behind and to the left of the parked ink cartridges. Carriage is free.

 

Obviously I need to shop for another printer, should I 'trust' HP again?!

 

What do you think?
