Just install the new printer yesterday and never managed to print two side (deplux) documents.
When enabling the two-sides print mode, i got a warning message on the computer that the media size is too short (french message because of my setup).
When clicking OK, it start printing but on different paper (no duplex!!)...?

What size paper are you trying to print on and have you selected the correct size?

I'm using US Letter size and i've tried multiple Word and PDF files that have same US Letter dimensions.
I've found through the forums that this kind of problem is often related to envelope or checks but on my side, it's all US Letter and Duplex printing... ?!?

The attachment contains information on duplex printing from an HP document. Also, have you tried to perform this task directly from the printers front panel?

Hardware is OK : Made a two-sided copy from the printer without a hitch (except for correcting the duplex module that jammed the paper because of a small mis-aligned pin on the bottom that stopped the paper).
But for the software side, i always got a warning message (on my WinXP desktop with latest software downloaded recently).
Have to test it with my Linux laptop with latest HPLIP to see if its related to my WinXP installation...

On my Linux laptop, i've managed to work with the printer by changeing the driver from E710n to E709n. (had other type of problem when using e710n driver) But i'll go to the HPLIP bug report system for that case.
What i found out is that under Linux, i had to select a media type like "Letter Us - Duplex" or something like that.
Got back to WinXP desktop and did not found this selection ??
Now i'm baffled.
I think i'll try installing the original CD that came with the printer and hope that it's an older release than the one i've got from the hp web site... ![]()

When selecting dual side printing, i've found that most of the media types displays a warning (!) next to them and that a special "US Letter" (Bind or both side printing designation) is available and have no warning.
I've selected this special "US Letter" media and some printing option grays-out.
Tried printing... Always got same message (Sort of "Paper size too short")...
Hummmm...

I need to ask you if this unit actually has a duplexer attached to the back of the printer or are simply trying to do manual two-sided printing?
Also, I might be able to setup and test here in my office...
What is your complete OS you're using?
What is the Model number of the printer (found under the cover)?
What is the driver that is installed?

The unit has the duplexer installed (i personnally installed it). And like i previously said, i can do dual side copies directly from the printer itself.
I've tested on both WinXPPro32bits(Desktop) and Win7HomePremium64bits(Laptop)
Complete detail of my printer from it's web page:
Product Name HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z
Product Model Number CN557A
Product Serial Number CN0BD131H005JW
Service ID 21032
Firmware Version CIP1FN1048PR
Total Page Count 23
Country/Region Canada
Driver revision (from Windows properties of printer): 6.1.7600.16385
I actually installed the official CD that came with the printer (uninstalled latest one from the web)

I've been running into a similar problem. I'm getting the same message that the paper size is too short but the printout is exactly as it should be. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and just re-installed the printer because I had to get a warranty replacement. Even though I can print double sided, I still don't want an error message everytime I try to do so. Any help would be appreciated.
