C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

I bought a C5580 for the CD printing feature but found out that the CD label creator software bundled with Roxio Media Creator 9 suite doesn't have that printer as a supported model (they only have Epson printers). Does anyone know of a good label creating software (non-HP) that supports the C5580 directly? Or can anyone tell me if the newest version of Roxio Media Creator (Creator 2009) supports this printer.

I find the bundled HP software to be too limiting -- I can't move the text around like I can on Label Creator.

Thanks!

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

Agreed - I am SOOOO frustrated.  We have looked for a printer to print CD's, so happy to find this, then, it is so limiting it is unbelievable.  I have other CD labels already formatted but on differnet programs.  Even Print SHop!  How can I print these too?

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

I was reading on the Roxio discussion board and it seems that the Roxio employees there are pointing the finger at HP not being cooperative with respect to the nature of the printer drivers. I would love to hear HP's side of the discussion and whether or not there are software publishers that HP is working with to provide better "hooks" into the printer from packages that can print on the CDs.

I read on the Roxio board (before the moderator booted the thread) that "Surething CD Labeler" could handle HP printers. I am going to check out that software and report back to this community.

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

Looking at suggestions on this board, I tried on Sure Thing CD Labeler 5 - you can get a full featured 15-day trial and the full license is pretty reasonable -- $25.00. I just printed successfully on a CD-R with MP3s on it. I think I am going to buy this software.

Maybe HP can strike a deal for a further discount with purchase of a C5580?

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

I just got one of these printers for Christmas. In fact after doing a lot of research, including talking to HP about the possibilities of use of third party programs, I chose it.  Their official word is that they cannot guarantee that they world work.  But, unofficially, they told me that they couldn't see why not.  So, I chose it, and began searching online for a program that said it supported HP CD/DVD Direct Printing.

I found one in Accoustic and after creating a mask in Paint Shop Pro spent a long time creating a new CD label.  Only to find it stopping in the middle with an error to close the cd door.  I could not believe it...  but before going completely nuts and beginning to throw things.. I decided to try something...

I remember seeing on the labeling program that you can export the label to a graphic file.  So, I exported my newly created label as a PNG file and added that file into the HP picture area with Photo Essentials.  Then in the provided HP CD/DVD Label program chose the blank CD and on the graphic chose the label.

IT WORKED!!!  It actually printed my label.

I don't know if Roxio has the Export to Graphic function but you minght see.  If so, be sure to chose PNG format--it is small and you won't lose quality. Good Luck

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

Thank you for posting your results regarding Sure Thing.  I also purchased the C5580 with intentions of printing CD labels, and all I can say is...if only I had known ahead of time that I'd be so close to throwing the whole thing out in my front yard, I wouldn't have bothered!  Actually, as far as general printing, scanning and copying, it does a pretty good job.  I'm just really frustrated that the CD labeler doesn't work with the software HP provided (I tried both the install disc and downloading online).  It's been very frustrating as well that it's now a week later and I've wasted hours of time online with HP support leading me around in circles with no resolution whatsoever, but that's a long story!

Per your suggestion, I tried the free trial offered by Sure Thing, and I've been pretty impressed so far.  Not only did it download quickly, but it's also easy to use and best yet...IT ACTUALLY WORKS!  Interestingly, I have to say that HP support has been courteous and quick to reply to my messages looking for help - that is until my last message.  Last night I received an e-mail from them with yet another download to try to get the printer to work properly.  After giving it another shot and once again getting no results, I replied letting them know about my success with Sure Thing.  Then I asked them if they would reimburse me the $24.95 it's now going to cost me to in order to make the printer work like it's supposed to.  And, well it's now 24+ hours later and of course I haven't heard a thing back from them.

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

After spending 1 hour with HP support Chat I was told that Roxio supported the C5580 printer, after installing Roxio 10 I spent another 2 hours with HP support I now findout that only essentials is to be used. Had I know I would not have bought HP (Hardly Practical) C5580.

I did have a lot of luck with Meritline EZ Label Xpress. Just before printing you need to adjust the offset calibration so the label is fairly close to edge of top and left edge of paper. Also be sure to select at the very beginning, CD/DVD and then full coverage. Do not worry about how the form has the CD/DVD label staggerd, the C5580 knows to ignore the 2nd label. When you print be sure to select preferences and select DVD/CD printing. The is the easiest I've seen

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing

Just a question, after installing Sure Thing 5 is there anything special you have to do in page setup to make it work with the C5580.

Re: C5580 All-in-One CD Printing /Sure Thing Labeler Deluxe 5.0.557.0

Like I stated in my posts I installed Sure Thing CD Labeler Deluxe 5, it never mentioned by anyone that in order for this app to work with the C5580 you have to do a UPDATE for this app. Guess what it works great..yahoooooooo...:manvery-happy::smileyvery-happy::womanvery-happy:
