I've been happy for years with my Photosmart C6100 - until recently. Have been running on a Mac network (network connected and shared) with all machines running Mac OS X Lion. All machines are able to access the printer.
I installed a "new" pink ink cartridge only to be told that it had expired. I continued to use it as I had only received it from HP less than 6 months ago. After 3-4 weeks, the printer started printing r..e..a..l s....l....o....w. Quality was fine but more than 1 minute per page. Not normal behavior. Tried to run a self-test report. Self-test starts and then ejects a blank page with error "Paper size or type is incorrect." I'm using the same, standard OfficeDepot quality 8-1/2" x 11" paper I always use. When I press OK to continue (without doing anything to the paper or paper tray), the self-test starts. It prints very slowly and prints the top two lines of the Self Test Diagnostic Page. Then the printer goes into re-boot mode - shuts down, re-starts, initializes, and then ejects the partially printed self-test page.
I've tried several different things - replacing the expired ink cartridge, printing from other computers, restoring to factory defaults, even disconnecting from the network, powering off, restarting and attempting the self-test with no computer connected. Same results.
Any thoughts or ideas on this one, or is the printer now a first class door stop?

JohnB - Many thanks for your posting. I had alread found this KB article and done what I could with it. My problem seems to be bigger than this. My machine was working perfectly, but then began to not complete the sefl test, as previously mentioned. There is nothing in the KB article to address this aspect.
For now, the C6100 is "parked" and if I can't resolve the problem soon, I'll pass the machine off to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, or similar.
