C7280 A:How to print, prepare 4x6 Photos without automatic cropping by the printer ?

Aloha Community,

I just got the new Printer, is working great unless that I had to download the drivers, CD is not good...

A: Anyway !! My Problem is that I make Art and I made a 4x6 300dpi "Flyer" in Photoshop Cs3

than sent it to the Photoprinter (preview lokked fine) but than it cut off some edge (Text), auto croped it...

It also does it if I print fresh made photos direkt form Media Card, but there I thought it might be that the Picture form the camera has a slight

diffrent dimension.

Someone figured out the perfect mesurements, is there a margin i have to calculate in my artwork since its printing borderless?

B: Someone knows if there is plugins for Photoshop CS3 & Illustratio, Indesign... Its a heck to click through and diffrent print set ups to get the print done...

Mahalo ! I am ver grateful for any Help, Tips, Experience about this toppic...

Astrid

A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

Ok here I have a Experimet to show....

1. I created a graphic to show me how much gets cut off

2. I made a file 4x7 300dpi (preset in Photoshop for Photos)

3. I insered my graphic to tell me what is going on...lots of squeres getting smaller....

4,5,6,....after couple times I printed and put my apprx inside margins in to make sure to find the area marked them on my previous designs

with a yellow box & border to see if i got it

wich than I printed it on borderless Photoprint 4x6 Portrait again ,the top got scrued a bit.... oh well

than i printed normal the design over the normal tray on a piece of paper....

I scanned them to show you how the photo got enlarged some procent...

So far i found out that is good to make a inside save margin about 3mm all around, except top you need less (where he starts printing, but give him some) and you are save that the content comes into the photo...

My How to

Mahlo for listing... Still hoping someone knows a better solution!!!

& Havent tryied out what happens on Landscape Pixs but should be save with 3 all arround, dont know ifg he starts the print of the left or right side!!!

Mahalo Leialoha.... a little bit frusterrated

Re: A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

There some Corrections of my own solution cause there is a dislexy error in my own solution above so here i try to make it clear for anyone who bumps into the same Problem:

Just keep in mind that the Photoprinter Cropes/Enlages the picture a bit.

and if you put Art Work, Text on your soon to print as a photo picture... Keep some savety space between the

outer borders of your picturefile...

Portray Savety Margins 2.5 mm - 3 mm: In Gerneral Good:

All around if you have photopaper without tab || (Left,Right,Top for Photopaper with "Tab")**

Landscape Savety Margins 2.5 mm - 3 mm: In Gerneral Good too:

All around if you have photopaper without tab || (Left OR Right*,Top & Bottom for Photopaper with "Tab")**

*Haven tyied it out, but the printer will rotate the picture 90 degrees to print it out so left or right of the landscape will come out first....

** Only Important if you want to have a centerd feel if you put Text/Logo.... on the Photo.....

I guess I kinda takes it as solved, even I feel its like a workaround....  and would love to see some detailed information....

if there is a way to get arround it.... or knowing this is a part of borderless printing.... a bleed.....

Re: A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

I think I have have exactly the same problem as you when printing borderless on my brand new B8550 i.e. regardless of paper size & picture size, when I print borderless about a quarter inch is cropped from every side of the picture. Otherwise the print is fine, picture goes to ege of paper, quality is great, but I have that quarter inch missing on all 4 sides. I find it very annoying.

I have spent the last 3 weeks with HP trying to fix the problem and they have had me running in circles. At various times they have told me its a printer problem so they sent me a new printer, an Adobe problem so I removed all Adobe software from my machine,  my computer is at fault so I tried 3 others. The lastest theory is that it's Windows XP. I'm waiting for a call back.

Have you had any luck or are you still working around the problem?

Re: A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

I do not have a exacty soulution. I made a graphic with boxes in a box in diffrent colors, Printed it out to see what the Printer cuts off. Even this is not exact since the Printer sometimes sucks in the papaer some milimeter more and less.... But it helpt to get a approx. picture. The Top that gets printed first has less cut off than the rest (and the lefto or right side on a landscape print).

I work arround. The Software is a bit annoing that came with the printer. Super slow installations, slowes down the boot up, doesn't work easywith adobe... many many clicks extra... but I am still happy with the Printer... Just wish they would sell bigger Ink Cat. is obivous that it could hold bigger ones...

Much Love,

Astrid

Re: A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

Even shrinking the image down 3mm did not help us- the only thing that did was when changed the margin buffer zone to a color instead of white. It was like the printer is too smart and will only do borderless printing with the media instead of the actual page- but the image is still distorted (smooshed length wise)

Did you guys really just live with the problem

Re: A Attempt to find "Save Content margins"

Yes, I guess I just take it as it is, did not had a project where i had to be exact.. so I know about it and I calucalte it in my preperations... I do prepare the photos or flyer or what I do in photoshop... I did not get the pictures disorted only that the margins that get cut off are like a lottery... some her and next time some there....is to bad would be grerat to have it more exact or predictable... Sorry... Leialoha
