Today I installed three HP-supplied ink cartridges (Black, Magenta and Cyan) and all are recognised as present and full.
Whenever I try to print - even the self-test report - there is NO Black, Magenta or Cyan ink on the page. I tried the "cleaning printheads" and "align printer" options - they had no effect.
My son starts new school term on Monday and is desperate to print some pictures for his project work.
Any assistance very much appreciated.

Am having exactly the same issue, except in my case it's the magenta and light magenta. Replaced the cartridges, cleaned the heads. The printer recognizes them as installed with a 100% ink level, reports no error conditions, but these two colors will not print.
Have also tried a full power reset, to no avail.
Coming to the conclusion that it's broke, but it's only about a year and a half old, and doesn't get that much use.

I finally fixed it by continuously cleaning and aligning the heads a few more times then it sprang back to life and has worked fine ever since.

I will certainly give that a shot. HP tech support ran me through all sorts of hoops, and finally told me it was broken, out of warranty, and they'd happily give me a discount on a refurb to replace it.

I had the same problem. Replaced cyan cartridge. Ink gauge in toolbox in printer firmware recognised it and shows the cartridge as full. Status of the cartridge in Solution Center shows as ready but if I try to print from an application the driver reports the error message "ink cartridge empty - install cyan cartridge"
HP support asked me to manually clean the cartridge contacts (even though the ink gauge was showing it was full) and to reset the printer to factory defaults (unplug, wait 20 seconds, hold down # and 3, and plug in. Did all that. No change.
I suspected a bug in the driver ( a flag set by an error condition not being cleared when the error condition is cleared) so uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
Problem solved, but it's only a work around. Is there a bug in the driver, HP?

I have the same problem....but not your expertise.
How hard is it to uninstall and install the driver, and do you think I could find instructions somewhere?

Mine does EXACTLY the same. Will not print the dark or light magenta inks. Apart from that it still works fine. It is very frustrating because i was told to throw it away and buy a new one. But why should i when i had to do the same with my C3310 3 years ago. I am very disheartened with HP and their service with these problems.

After reading all these reports here i have come to the conclusion that it is a huge problem with this particular printer so why dont HP come to the party and fix them for nothing for us. Afterall we spent a lot of money on their faulty products. My 3310 was thrown out after just 3 years when it started saying there was no cyan ink installed. The HP techician told me to throw it out and purchase a new one. Why should we be throwing them away when it is their fault? Come on HP please come to the party and help us with the repairs on our printers.

I have the same problem, and very frustrated, HP needs to work on this, Tried all of the suggestions given with no change,. From Day one, my Ink Level Gauge never seemed correct. But it was working so I just ignored the fact that it was showing levels were almost empty even though just put new cartrigres in. My Light Magenta and Magenta come up blank on my Self Test Diagnostic Page, But on my alignment page the light Magenta is there. but not the Magenta. All my colors are faded. Would like a response from Hp REGARDING THIS. since so many people are having problems. Please, need my printer and do not have the funds to buy another. My Canon lasted me 7 years this one is only two years old. Please HELP !!!
