Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

I have same problem as this gentleman. except my arm for the tray is in perfect shape with nothing broken, I took unit apart and don't see any switch installed to connect arm to.it was connected on the bottom and to the tray itself.

it has been working perfect day in and day out..we never move it and tray has always been left open. I did however notice there is a piece that connects it to bottom of case and a tiny arm piece that looks like it should hold some thin wire or such on top. but I don't see anything there whatsoever to connect to it. any help on this would be appreciated...Thanks

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

I have the same issue - everything looks in good order and the printer is only a few months old. It must be a design or manufacturing fault - any tips before I take it back to the store?

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

Hi,

I've got the same problem and I need an information. Where exactly is the output tray detector in this printer?

Does anybody found it? The information where is the output tray sensor connected would be even better than the information about the sensor location.

pcwizard: Could You find someone at HP, who knows insides of this printer and ask him about that?

Your picture of the arm of the output tray has no use - this arm is not a sensor arm. There is no optoelctronic, contactron, halotronic nor mechanic sensor there.

thank you in advance

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

Hi koyyott,

When you push the arm straight back toward the printer it will then activate that the door is closed. If this Arm is not properly seated in the Door or is broken you will get the message to open the output tray.

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

pcwizard:

When the tray is closed, this arm blocks the roller (the first one - we can see it). When we want to print, the printer tries to spin this roller and because it is blocked by the arm of closed tray it shows "open output tray". This (and only this!) message will be seen as long as the tray is closed.

Now we open the tray: the roller can rotate and the printer shows: "printing..."(or similiar) but after a second it shows again: "open output tray". After the message "printing.." and before "open output tray" the roller stops (I think it is programmed to do so) but maybe it is a bug in the code and the printer "thinks" that the tray blocks the roller.

When the tray is closed, the printer never shows "printing.." message.

That is the proof that the mechanics is working good.

Our problem is in electronics or in firmware.

I printed whole 6 pages on this printer. I installed the printer on other computer to configure wifi and then (I don't exactly remember) it started to complain about the tray. Was there firmware actualisation while the install process?

Greets!

koyyott

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

Hi koyyott,

The sensor arm I am referring to in Message 4 of 19 is no where close the paper pickup rollers which are located in the back of the printer. I am not clear as to what you mean by this arm blocking the roller. Can you provide a picture of the problem you are having?

Re: Deskjet 3050 falsely reports "open output tray"

pcwizard:

Pictures to clear what I am talking about in the earlier post:

View at the front of the printer, the output tray is open:

Now the same view at the front but the cartridge door is open:

DSC00310.JPG

Does anybody know what does this printer need to "know" (what electrical signal is needed) that the output tray is open?

pcwizard: could you find someone in HP technical department that knows this printer and ask about it?
