Deskjet D2680 will not print a document on first attempt after booting up.

When PRINT button on documents print screen is pressed, printer will rumble, growl for about 15 seconds, but won't print. I found a work-around, it's tedious, but it probably offers clues to the problem.

I go into Control Panel-Printers, then cancel all print jobs. Just before cancelling the jobs, I notice that Control Panel Printers says that the problem document is "restarting", but it never restarts. After cancelling all print jobs, I see via Windows Task Manager that the CPU usage is pinned at 100%. By clicking on "Processes" in Task Manager, I see that the "stuck" program is the Print Spooler. I then turn off the spooler via the End Process button. Through "Services" in Task Manager I find that the Print Spooler has stopped. Once I restart it, the printer comes alive and behaves perfectly the rest of the computer session.

I am running Windows Vista Home Basic, Service Pack 2, on a Pentium 4 3.8 gigahertz, 8 gigabytes Ram, 64 bit processor

Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here. I may be able to resolve the spooler/print queue issue that you are experiencing automatically. Let us know the results.

Best of Luck!
