Does anyone know if I can use the scanner even though I am not using the printer of my C 5180 (90 Views)

I personally think HP is a rip off, they make  **bleep** printers that use ink cartridges that not only do you have to replace every few weeks it seems but if you don't use your printer the **bleep** cartridges expire????

 

I'll never buy another HP printer EVER....

 

OK now I feel better here is my question,

 

I have decided to not replace the ink cartridges any longer and I bought another printer that doesn't use ink cartridges. I would like to still use the scanner, can the scanner still be used without the **bleep** printer always telling me that the cartridges need to be replace.  can the printer be disabled and only use the scanner?
