HP 209a - Printer Preparation Occurring

I recently purchased a HP Photosmart Plus printer (HP 209a) and have noticed that after print job, it goes into a "printer preparation occurring" mode which lasts 30 to 45 seconds.  It is very noisey and quite bothersome.  I have never experienced this with any other printer as all of them simply print and stop.  i would appreciate knowing if this is normal or if there is something that can be done to change it.

Thanks!

Re: HP 209a - Printer Preparation Occurring

Yes, I have exactly the same problem with the B209A. A simple print out taking a few seconds followed by half a minute of noise as it continues to readjust itself or whatever it's doing. And yes it is noisy and extremely irritating.

There must be a way to disable this. Anyone from HP got a suggestion ??

It's got to the point where I avoid using this printer and have gone back to my older HP printer because it's quicker, much quieter and uses far less ink and stops after it has printed. This B209A is a real ink hog even though I use it just on the draft setting.

Come on HP, tell us how we can fix this - it's a lousy user experience at the moment !

Re: HP 209a - Printer Preparation Occurring

I just bought (Oct 2010) an HP Photosmart Premium printer. It is continually going to "Printer Preparation" mode before a print job and some adjustments after the print job. I understand from other posts that printer heads are being cleaned to produce the best quality output. Well, this is emptying the print cartridges at an incredible rate.

I also have an 8500. It suffers frequent paper jams and an occasional printer head jam. One evening last week, I did a shutdown and restart, then went home. During the night, it went into an endless maintenance and drained 3 color cartridges and one black cartridge. Each was about half full when I left. I know, because I had to replace the yellow for having been drained the day before. People, that's over a $100 worth of cartridges. HP - YOU GOTTA DO SOMETHING. While I might be able to afford your printers, the ink costs are not gonna make it with my business.

Re: HP 209a - Printer Preparation Occurring

OK HP, looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. I noticed this problem back when I bought this printer a couple years ago and has had since a couple software updates. This behavior along with the buggy B/W scanning issue that saves the file as many times the size of a regular 11.5" x 8" peice of paper has me off HP printers forever!

Way to go on annoying your customers.

Have the same problem. Print takes 1-2 sec, prepearing before and after takes for ages and makes a lot of noise. I have c309a.

Thank you HP for a piece of crap. I will never buy a HP printer again and i will probably throw this one throught window, cos its driving me nuts!

Re: HP 209a - Printer Preparation Occurring

This is what big companies like HP don't want you to know. What it is doing is keeping the inkjets moist by squirting ink through them. Now, you may be wondering, "Where does that ink that it squirts go????". Well the big secret is a Waste Ink Resivoir. It squirts it into a hidden container, inaccessible to the average user. When it fills up, it will stop printing and tell you to send it to HP. They will charge you 200 dollars to "fix the broken parts". They just empty the resivoir and send it back.
