Hi,
You may set b&w printing as default by changing the printing preferences screen:
- Enter the control panel. then open printers.
- Right-click the printer icon and then click Printing Preferences.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Set Print as Grayscale as High Quality Grayscale or Black Ink Only.

Shlomi

Thank you for your suggestion. Sadly, when I right-click the HP6510 printer icon, the choices are:
* Rename printer
* Set default printer
* Reset printing system...
The Options & Supplies icon and the underlying HP Utility also do not provide an option to select either grayscale or black and white. The embedded web server utility likewise does not provide this functionality.
It appears HP intentionally denies the user this ability available in less sophisticated printers. Sad.
Kind regards,
Joe

Hi Joe,
You can set Black ink printing within the print dialog settings.
The option surely avaialble, sharing such information as you are using a Mac anvoirnment would highly help to point you further to the right direction ;-)
Follow the steps below in order to print using Black Ink only:
1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the blue triangle next to the product model (Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.6) or the Show Details button ( Mac OS X v10.7 Lion) to see all available settings.
2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit) Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.
4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.
5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
6. Set the Grayscale Mode as Black Ink Cartridge Only.
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset. Once performing the print job using the saved preset, it will be used as default till selecting any different preset.
Regards,
Shlomi
