HP Deskjet 460 Toolbox

Where is the toolbox in windows 7? It would be nice to be able to align cartridges.

Unfortunately, there is not an HP full featured driver for the 460 in Win7, only the driver that comes with Windows.  As a result there is no toolbox or solution for aligning the cartridges:

Unfortunately that is the conclusion I  drew. Even after some one at hpsupport (chat) told me to download the latest driver.

One would think that, given the cost of these mobile printers, that HP would provide updated drivers for Window 7.  Is there ANY WAY to utilize the Tool Box for the newer Officejet 470 series?

SOMEONE should know how to workaround this.  For situations like this, HP should come up with a web app, or a universal Tool Box that would "find' your HP printer, and apply the parameters within the install on your pc/laptop.  Again, where is the incentive for customer loyalty?

Is there any way to check Ink level? Just installed the driver from windows7 update.

Got it! Well, after searching around for a solution to the Toolbox on Windows 7, I figured I'd take a random stabbing guess at it. Since Windows 7 is so similar to Vista (internally), I figured the only thing standing in the way was the new "universal print driver" HP is pushing out for their printers. Admirable effort, and it works pretty well! Except, I figured, for this printer.

Well, turns out, it works just fine. You just have to put the Toolbox in compatibility mode for Vista SP2.

I used the driver that was installed when I plugged the printer in (downloaded via Windows Update). Then I went to HP's site and checked for Vista 64-bit software - the toolbox. It installed without a hitch but complained that "the driver is not installed" (obviously it was...!). That's when I searched and turned up this topic, with a dead-end. So I gave it a try - Properties on the Toolbox shortcut (right click -> properties), Compatibility tab, and choose compatibility mode for Vista SP2. Then, guess what? Worked like a dream!

I find it hard to believe HP would so-readily throw out their Vista-era devices... sheesh!

Seriously!!!!   You rock.  Great post and fixed what ailed me perfectly.

I'm worried that it is not reading the color ink level correctly.  But the toolbox works perfectly.
