HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

Having used the HP J6480 all in one for some time on all three current windows versions with a variety of applications, I've been stymied by this problem. When I installed Office 2010 on a Windows 7 machine, the Office apps won't change printer properties for the HP J6480. They will for other printers including Epson printers. But it's only the Office 2010 apps, and not any others. OpenOffice works just fine, as do all other printer enabled applications. I've been in contact with the MS Office team, specifically the Word 2010 support people, and they've been unable to identify a specific problem. I've uninstalled the printer driver, and allowed Win7 to automatically reinstall it with no success. Any experts out there that can help???

Thanks

Re: HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

Is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit?

I have seen some scattered issues that seem similar but have not gotten much of a pattern.

Re: HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

Have you tried to run microsoft update for office product? (If not - under Windows update - make sure to check to update other Microsoft's products at the windows update settings

It could help for my opinion - I had a similar situation with my own printer, and updating office solved itproblem for me..

Re: HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, MS Office updates haven't helped the problem. And the HP drivers are the most current and were downloaded automatically by Windows 7 update. From further work with MS Word Support Team, it may be a corrupted file that needs to be "scrubbed" by a special utility they've sent me. I'll update when I have a chance to run through the full protocol suggested by them.

Re: HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010 and/or in IE9.

I am running Win7/64bit and Office 2010/32 bit. When changing printing properties from within an office, excel, or powerpoint document, a working solution for me is as follows:

On the ribbon open the FILE TAB,
on the FILE TAB click Print,
hover the mouse pointer over the "Printer Properties" link (should highlight in red),
left click the link (keep pressed down),
hit the ENTER key on the keyboard (the printer properties window will open),
change the color properties, etc... click the OK button,
click the PRINT button to print the document.

Note however, that this action will not change the DEFAULT print preference.

When printing a Web page in IE9, if the properties can't be changed from the PREFERENCES button, then click on the Printer Icon to open a context menu so you can access the Printing Preferences.. This should work but note that any changes made will become the new printer preference default setting.

Re: HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010

HP J6480 printer properties won't change in Office 2010 and/or in IE9.

I am running Win7/64bit and Office 2010/32 bit.

Remove HP drivers and installed software: Run and extract the HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility v13.0.0 (OJJ6400_Scrubber_13.exe).  Run the level-4 batch file (Uninstall_L4.bat). This is the comprehensive uninstall.

Run the HP Full Software Suite (OJJ6400_Full_13.exe) and "Install USB-Connected Device".

Review and configure Installation Options.

Uncheck all software to be installed except "HP Update" and "OCR Software by I.R.I.S."

Complete installation.
