Have you updated the firmware, and then uninstalled/reinstalled the printer once the firmware has been updated?
What is the operating system on the computer?
How do you have it connected to the computer?

I am also receiving errors when accessing the HP ToolboxFX on my Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) system. I get the "Cannot connect to the device. Make certain that the device...."
I never had this problem before until now.
My HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP is connected to my router as a network printer via wired (RJ45).
I am able to print from my desktops and laptops both wired and wireless within my home network. I can see my HP printer in the "Devices and Printers"
I did download the latest firmware from, http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34708/
The firmware was updated successfully. Firmware version: 20120629
I did download the latest PCL6 drivers from, http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39348/
The driver was updated successfully.
Have you updated the firmware, and then uninstalled/reinstalled the printer once the firmware has been updated? YES.
After doing this, I still get the error messages, but my printing within my network works fine. I've done TEST prints on all of my devices, and it prints fine.
The problem is the HP ToolboxFX, I get the messages errors when launching the application and when clicking the device within the HP ToolboxFX.
Is there an updated HP ToolboxFX software? I even used the HP Update software and it informs me that I'm up to date.

Need to uninstall the software you have on the system currently, and then install the printer using the following link below. Let me know what happens?

We might as well give it up, Toolbox is never going to work on Windows 7 until HP does something about it. I have tried ad nauseum to get my printer to work - I am going to give up on HP because they can't seem to find a solution.
