My printer (HP Officejet 6500A) "beeps" or "chirps" periodically when idle. Why?

Hi,

 

Every once in a while the Printer goes through some maintenancing and calibrations.  Is this occurring periodically or quite frequently?  Like continual?  If it is periodically then this is normal.  I have a similar printer that does this too.

I turned it off for about 24 hours. When restarted, the chirping is no more! Thanks for the reply.
