HP PSC 2175 previewer crashes program

Hi. I have an all-in-one printer Hp PSC 2175, running on a Dell Dimension 8400 XP machine. It's 7 yrs old and still performs great. However it recently started crashing when I start to print something as it shows the preview. The error message says, "hp previewer has encountered a problem and needs to close", etc. I also get a program error message that says, "hpzpre07.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" and to restart the program. Then the job stays in the print queue. I stop and restart the print spooler, the job is gone but the job pending icon stays in the task bar until I restart the computer. I had an old version of the HP Diagnostic Utility and it showed there was a problem with the print spooler and fixed it. But when I try to print again, the same thing happens. I downloaded the latest version of the utility but it did not help. I have the latest drivers and patches. If I de-select the hp previewer in properties it's fine. Print preview works from the File tab, but not when it begins to print. The only changes I made recently was uninstalling a few video editing programs. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks.

Re: HP PSC 2175 previewer crashes program

Ok, so I've been trying to troubleshoot this problem various ways. What I've found out is that this only occurs when I try to print a document (using Word 2002) that has a picture or graphic inserted. The hp previewer crashes the program. I checked all the various options from within Word under Print, such as making sure drawing objects is checked and draft objects is cleared. These all were suggestions I found while searching. My settings were correct. I can print pictures from my photo editors and emails with pictures, so it appears only to be a problem within Word. So my only recourse is to turn off "Show HP preview" in the printer settings when I want to print documents w/pictures. Don't know why this has changed, but I can live with it.
