HP Update 4.0.12 installation failed for windows xp

I have ran the HP Update 4.0.12 several times on my computer and the update fails everytime. I have Windows XP on the deskstop computer and anything Windows Vista related will not work. Can someone give me some ideas and help as to what to do? Thanks, John
