Hi, what printer model do you have? Are you seeing an error message or just blinking lights?

jamnoo wrote:I presently have a C5580 All-in-one. I have been using HP printers exclusively for more than 15 years.
I recently became discouraged with HP for discontinuing the CD-DVD printing mechanism on any of their printers without any warning or explanation whatsoever! I have loved the ability to print directly on printable discs and this printer has been functioning perfectly with original as well as re-manufactured cartridges. Suddenly, in the middle of a very important printing project, my 5580 became disabled witih a message that the cartridge is not compatible. How dare HP contruct a product that becomes disabled from printing if their own costly brand cartridge is not installed?!!! That printer belongs to me! HP's commercials can spiel all they want about their "superior" ink, etc. and they might even be correct. But that does not, in my opinion, give the company the right to dictate to me what ink I must use and even build in a disabling feature on the printer I have purchased! (The Ford motor company cannot require you to buy ONLY a Ford-brand carburator or else the car will not start!) Has anyone else experienced this or a similar insult to my intelligence? Is this even a legally permitted business practice? They're shooting themselves in the foot. I will never buy another product that has the HP name attached.
Hi jamnoo, so you were using the CD/DVD printing option before and it worked and now it won't? Did it give you a particular error message?
Thanks, Ciara

fighttowin wrote:So I ordered one of those refill kits because they are much cheaper than replacing the entire cartridge. I've used them before with multiple different printers and they work perfectly fine. After inserting the refilled cartridge into my printer I get the error message "incompatible cartridge".
Hi fighttowin, one possibility is that the refilled ink has damaged the circuitry of the cartridge so the printer can't read it. Did you try cleaning the cartridge contacts?, as maybe some ink or debris is lodged there (that could also stop the printer from reading the cartridge.)
BTW, what printer model do you have?
Thanks, Ciara

Hi, I'm involved with Inkjet and don't much about Laserjet products, so I'll pass your query on to one of the LJ folks..

Hi greencarrigdge
Have you tried a reset? Might be worth a try
- Turn the printer off.
- Press and hold down the green GO button.
- Turn the printer on and continue to hold the green GO button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During the process, the Attention LED will turn on.
- Release the GObutton.
NOTE: If both the Attention light and the Ready LEDs turn on before the GO button is released, the cold reset procedure must be started over at step 1. - The printer LEDs begin cycling. The cold reset process runs until completion and the printer returns to the Ready state.

Wal Mart (479-272-4000) doesn't want to be seen holding hands with HP and others who shaft their consumers with this kind of bs...There is no mechal reason then HP and others are forcing customers to buy their ink cartridges at $30--40 bucks instead of generics or even refill kits which save hundreds of dollars to Wal Marts consumers...
Call'em (Wal Mart @ their Corporate complaint line..479-272-4000)..I did and they said the complaint "definitely is a valid concern" and they are looking into it..
In the meantime, I intend to drop my HP laptop and printer (all bought at Wal Mart) into a garbage box and mail them to Wal Mart Corporate Office, 702 SW 8th Street, Bentonville, Arkansas 72716-8611..
During these very difficult times, I expect Wal Mart to support her consumers (businessmen/women included) instead of knowingly helping HP and others shaft their customers..
