How to make the Printer deskjet 3940 compatible with Windows 7, home basic, 32 bits?

I have HP Deskjet 3940 Printer. I recently purchased a Lenovo desktop( C320, 57-302429) which has Windows 7,home basic,32 bits operating system. The said printer does not work with the above computer. Please guide how to make this printer compatible with the above operating system.

Thanks for the reply.However it did not work inspite of following all the steps given in the link.

The printer deskjet3940 is not listed in HP printers list and also there is no tab mentioning "my printer is not listed"

Hence the whole process could not be completed.

You need to select Windows Update in the Add printer screen.

Could you pl elaborate this step?  How to go to" Add printer screen"? Please explain in little more details.

1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.

2. Click Add a Printer.

3. Select Add a local printer.

4. Choose an existing USBx Local port, click Next.

5. Click the Windows Update button.

6. After the update finishes, search for the 3940 driver.

7. click Next,Next,Next,Next,Finish

Thanks for a detailed procedure.However after clicking on Windows Update button I got the following message.

"Wndows was unable to get a list of devices from Wndows Update.Please try again later."

I tried atleast thrice,but in vain. Please help.

Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update and click Check for updates.

No it did not work. I got an error message 8024402F
