I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 and I'm trying to print name tags (Avery)

I'm trying to print name tags (Avery), but the printer keeps telling me I have the wrong size paper in the tray.  I'm working from Word in Windows 7, selected the appropriate template and even changed the page size to 4.5x11, but it will not print.

Re: I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 and I'm trying to print name tags (Avery)

This document may help:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01824353&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4323659&tmp...

If it was me, I would also check Avery website, and maybe MS Office (Word) website for possible answers, if that document above did not solve it.

Thanks.  I talked to an Avery "support" person.  No luck.  Said to talk to HP.  None of the recommendations worked.  I even reinstalled the printer.  I'm using the Avery template from Word and even changed the paper size to 4.5 x 11, but nothing. Are there drivers I need?

Well, I would try the latest drivers from our HP.com website. I would even try the basic drivers and try the full software driver package in case it makes a difference. Find them here:

Put in your printer model, select the right operating system.

Re: I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 and I'm trying to print name tags (Avery)

If the name tags are on a 1/2 sheet then this might work for you.  I had a paper size mismatch problem trying to print Avery mailing labels, 2163.  Very annoying!  They are basically 1/2 the size of an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.  I used the correct Avery template in Word, typed the address(es) I needed then temporarily taped two of the Avery sheets together, side-by-side.  I left the paper setting for printing at 8-1/2 x 11, placed the 8-1/2 wide Avery sheet in the tray and it worked like a charm.  I Hope it works for you.  I know there's a proper technical way to change settings to get the 1/2 sheets to print, but I forgot it, and this should do in a pinch.  Good luck!

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium. I had the same problem when I had the printer/WORD configured to print ob both sides. Changfed to single side printing and it worked.
