I want to thank you for giving me your feedback... Unfortunately all I read is the same... HP produces junk with a short lifespan...that's too bad... sounds like I'm a shoppin too! Canon the way to go? Gary Kuppers Canada. p.s. Thanks eh!

I am having the same problem, infuriating to be sure. I have had my Photosmart C6150 for about 2 years now. Suddenly today it wanted a new pale blue cartridge or it could not print. previously it said I could only print with black until I replaced the cyan, but today I could not print at all. Went and bought another new cartrige, 2nd one, installed it, and still got the message, need new cartridge, can't print. Called HP, and talked to the lady over 2 hours. did all of the things mentioned in the other messages, plus even more. After exhausting all the tricks at her disposal, she finally told me that it was a HARDWARE problem, and I would need a NEW MACHINE! She said I had not been using my 3 in 1 machine often enough, and that I had to turn it on and use it at least ONCE PER WEEK, so that it could MAINTAIN ITSELF, clean itself etc!!! Now, it was going to be necessary to buy a new one. It cost about $350 two years ago. I have kept it safe and sound, and treated it well. I did not use it every single week because I did not need to for any reason. HAD I KNOWN it had to be turned on every single week so it could MAINTAIN ITSELF, I would have been HAPPY TO DO SO!
If that is necessary, they should say so in bold red characters on the first page of the darned manual!!!
The lady just kept telling me how cheap new printers were, and that they were on sale, but yes, an equivalent to the one I had would cost $300!! She said I could take it to be repaired, but it would cost as much as to replace it. I am FURIOUS!
My son who works with computers said his friend just had the same problem and disgusted bought a cannon instead. My son said he bet it was the printer head, which can clog or dry up, and which he could not do anything about. He also has had this problem with his printer a year or so ago, gave up, and now uses his laser printer for black and white and goes to walmart for color pictures. Does anyone else know about this need to turn it on and use it at least once a week so it can maintain itself, or DIE!

I have had the same problem, have done all the things mentioned by other people, and the hp tech I spoke with said I should buy another printer, it was a hardware problem. My trigger color was light cyan. my son says he bets it is a clogged or dried out printer head, and there is nothing to do about that. The hp tech said it is my fault because I did not USE IT OFTEN ENOUGH!! I should have used it at least ONCE A WEEK SO IT COULD MAINTAIN / CLEAN itself. So they are blaming ME! Has anyone else heard or read that we must use the machine at least once a week in order for it to maintain and clean itself??!! If this is true, shouldn't it be in big red letters on the first page of the manual!! Use once a week or the machine will DIE!!!

Same problem here. I've only had the printer for a few months. I ran out of black ink, and when I replaced the black cartridge the color cartridge suddenly went caput. Not that it's out of ink, but I get a constant pop-up saying there's a problem with one of my cartridges and it won't print at all. It doesn't recognize the color cartridge at all, indicating that it's empty. Tried replacing it... still doesn't recognize it. Tried cleaning all of the contacts, powering up, powering down, powering sideways. No luck.
So I guess I paid $200 to print about 100 pages of black and white. Seems I would have been better served to just go to Kinkos.
Sounds like the official solution is to buy a Canon then?

Another victim claimed today with my yellow cartridge. Spent about an hour and a half with the chat support online and they said it was a hardware problem, then tried to sell me on their refurb scam. ($150-$300 for a used printer? really??)
This is such a common problem, and it seems systemic. Can we report these guys?
Either way, I will be running out to buy a Canon shortly.

I was about to trash my D7360 because of the same problem, then found the very useful page below on the HP site. I thought I'd tried every combination of powering up and down but hadn't tried this one: with printer on, unplug the power cord from socket and printer, wait 30 seconds, plug both ends back in.

WOW!!
Almost 2 years of the same complaint on this forum and still no fix from HP. One could only assume that HP wants the printer to break.
Guess my HP printer goes out in the trash tonight and tomorrow I go to look at other brands.
