I recently bought Deskjet 1050 and am still using the ink cartridges that came with it (HP 802 small tri-color and black). The HP 802 small black cartridge yields about 120 pages as said by HP. I have till now printed about 30 text documents (black, no images at all) and 50% of the ink has been used as shown by the Ink Usage utility. The printer is set to its default quality settings. I am supposed to get about 100 more pages but seeing the condition, I don't think I will get more than 30! What's the problem out there?![]()

HP states it could yield that many pages, it doesn't mean that you will get that many.
It depends on what you are printing. If you're printing a lot of pages with a lot of things on them, it will not last as long...and vice versa. The normal is more like 100 pages but again, it all depends.

I get around, if I'm lucky, 50 pages per ink cartridge. Not photos. Just simple pintouts.
I have a HP Photosmart C4740 Uses 60 cartridge.
I have re-purchased so to speak my printer several times in 5 months. I am in the market for a new printer.
I really like it. But it is an ink hog and I can't afford that.

The 60 cartridges are rated at 200 pages black and 150 pages color. There are a few things to consider to optimize ink usage:
- Leave the printer connected to a live outlet, do not use an external switch to turn off the printer.
- Consider the 60XL cartridges. They have 3x the page yield at about 2x the price, giving better cost per page.
- Wait until the ink runs out to replace the cartridges. The low on ink message is a warning that ink is getting low and you should have a replacement on hand, but you do not need to change the cartridges until they actually show signs of print quality deteriorating due to low ink.
- Use draft mode as appropriate. Draft mode uses about half the ink per page of normal or best modes and for casual use (especially for text) the quality may be adequate.
- Avoid unnecessary cleaning cycles. A typical cartridge will not require a cleaning cycle in its entire life. Running unnecessary cleaning cycles can shorten the life of the cartridges and the printer.

I have a new CP2025dn, and it is an ink hog! I print a grayscale newsletter (a lot of text, a few pics and graphics) with a total of 2400 printed pages. My old HP laserjet typically printed a full newsletter on one toner cartridge. This one was rated at about 3000 pages and the toner's about $125 vs $150 for the old one, so I thought I'd be saving money. But my first newsletter took over two full toners to print!
I did notice that about every 25-50 pages the thing stops and runs a cleaning cycle, which seems excessive to say the least; is that where all the toner's going, and how do I stop that from happening?
Thanks,
Eugene
