Re: Ink washing away C5180

I have a HP C7180 All-in-One, which also uses Vivera 02 ink, and I have the same problem with the ink running if something drips on it. The use of hairspray is not a viable solution. First off, I am allergic to hairspray and second, I can't be spraying all the documents I have to print up for the monthly board meeting I attend. I, too, am very disappointed in HP's support. It is virtually next to none. Did HP change management or something? Their products used to be topnotch.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

Thanks for making me feel I'm not the only one that had problems with HP support Melrose. Its true, HP had very good products, to which I was even proud to own an older HP that was replaced by the one that I have now. The ink NEVER ran when the page got wet. But going back and forth with HP support lately asking what kind of paper I used, which was not HP but after giving them the brightness number of 94 and acid free is when I was told to try photo paper. They did say to change the ink cartridge, buy why? Every time I put in a new black ink cartridge, it runs just the same as before. So I gave up on them. I know next time though for when I buy another printer, I'm going to do my little test before I commit to buying it, especially when it uses yes, Vivera 02 ink cartridges.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

I have a C7280 printer with same results.

I contacted HP support in another issue (print to a page with a "border" on it and it takes the end of the border as the start of the page) and all I got was a runaround. Try this, try that, re-install, what kind of network, try this app, that app and on and on and on. Obviously HP, with their outsourcing, no longer cares about having quality products, or even hearing about problems. They just set up outsourcing people to frustrate the consumer.

I won't buy another HP product.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

WOW, this is major big time problems. I have the C7280.  I print a huge amounts of documents daily and pictures like crazy.  Just for the heck of it I printed a picture on plain paper and photo paper to check this out, also took a month old pic and document and tested them, put about a dime size spot of water on all and sure enough the ink ran. :smileymad:  I use 92/20 copy paper and HP Invent Photo paper.  I don't have the problem like one of the other posts that the ink just runs after printing, or any smudges if my hands are damp. I can pick up a photo just after printing and don't have any trouble.  I was totally amazed the first time I printed a picture at how awesome it printed.  HP is the only brand printer I have ever had (13yrs) and never had any trouble with any of them.  This just blows my mind.   WHY??????  HP would you put out a product that you KNOW people are going to use in business and personal use (MEMORIES)  and just sit back/collect OUR money WITH YOUR WHO GIVES A **bleep** response from your SO CALLED tech support and yes I did contact online support ONCE and that will never happen again. All they do is read from the manual and have no clue what they are talking about, we can read the manual as well or maybe I should say BETTER than they can sense they are from another COUNTRY.  They are RUDE and treat people like MORONS.  IT'S ABOUT TIME HP BRINGS IT'S PRODUCTS/SUPPORT BACK TO THE USA and put some KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE on the other end of the lines.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

[ Edited ]

I have a little different twist to the same problem - Ink washing from my printed DVDs.  Started to begin a new thread but a solution to the problems noted here will solve mine also.

I was amazed at the quality of printing directly onto DVDs using my 5250.  So I don't want a new ink or different printer.  What I want is a way to stabalize the ink once the DVD is printed.  One of the DVDs that I printed began skipping and I saw fingerprints on the readable side so I took it to the sink for a good cleanup - WOAH!!  That's when I learned the weakness of the water soluble ink.  I Googled to try to find a solution and there actually are a couple of products (lacquers) that claim to stabalize the ink on CD/DVD's printed with ink jet printers.  Unfortunately they are all in Europe and I'm fresh out of Euros.

Has anyone found a product that will stabalize the ink - either one marketed for that purpose or that is marketed for something else but works.  I haven't tried hairspray yet but I figure that if it washes off in the shower (it better) then it'll probably not withstand a good soap & water cleansing in my sink.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

I have a C6150 all in one with the same problem. I've had it for a year. The photo paper does well, but the regular paper runs, always, with any moisture at all. I did not see this listed as a problem on the HP support page. I tried the all in one paper. I have always had Epson's with no problems and this is my first HP. It will be my last HP. I'll try some of the recommendations posted here and will contact HP. If anyone has any luck, please post a reply. Otherwise, perhaps HP should "recall" these. A printer that prints paper that's not usable seems like a "fraud".

Re: Ink washing away C5180

Good luck in contacting HP. I have tried this and got nowhere. They only give you the runaround of using photo paper to replacing ink cartridges. I have even told HP support that there is a forum thread (this one) of not just me but of others having the same problem. They completely ignored that.

I've had HP's but this one using the Vivera Ink is the only one that runs. The older HP's I've had, I never had this problem no matter what paper I used.

Anyway good luck lindachopkinton in getting anywhere with them.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

Isn't this rich - after posting to this board, I got a survey to fill out about HP customer forums. Now you would think HP could spend their effort solving the problem, but instead they spend it asking how I like trying to find other users who can help me solve HPs problem.

Re: Ink washing away C5180

Welcome to my nightmare world!!!  I finally found the information. I have C5180 that I bought last October from Circuit City. The salesperson said that that product is the best and she showed me some samples but, strangely, she never said anything about being careful not to get wet. I searched for the solution and found it.  The solution was to purchase '98' thickness paper like 24/26 lbs paper but it is so expensive. Why can't I buy regular papers and not having a problem with washing away ink?  I tried to find another brand (not HP) to replace 02 but, guess what, there is no brand to replace 02 ink. HELP!!  Also, I use the photo sheet all the times but, it's still a problem with washing away ink.  I still have the old 'best quality' printer with Kodak built-in (I forgot the name of it) that is still working great but I can't use it because it only uses parallel port. My iMac does not have parallel port. I tried to use the parallel-USB conversion cable but it didn't work well. How can I replace HP 02 ink with a new ink brand? How can I resolve it? Thank you.
