Depending on your printer model you may need to contact the supplier of the CIS for a solution.  The HP Low On Ink indicator only tracks the original HP ink in the cartridges, it has no way of knowing about a CIS system and its properties.

Re: Low ink warning driving me crazy

Wow, I am sorry, I just reread what I wrote last night an it sounds pretty snotty... I was upset but didn't realize that came though so strongly. Thank you for taking the time to try and help.

The HP CIS system uses the chips from the original HP cartridges. You take them off the old cartridges and glue them to the new CIS cartridges. So when the printer calculates that the cartridges are empty it continually send out warnings. It's the same for non CIS systems though, HP calculates when the cartridge should be empty, not when it is empty.

There are many people who buy printers when they are on sale for $20. When the ink runs out, they toss it in the dumpster and buy another. Stupid, right? No cheaper! It makes me want to cry when I see this happen but that is what the printer companies have created. Throw away printers. CIS systems are great, not from the cost of ink standpoint so much, but from the make the printer last longer, not have to run to the store all the time to buy ink standpoint (I live way out in a rural area).

Now if I could just cleat my monitor from thee messages. It really is frustrating because the minute I remove a screen full of them, the printer just sends them back to the screen again. And you can't leave them there because they are on top of everything. I wonder if I can modify the HP software via the OS X terminal program...

Re: Low ink warning driving me crazy

I am on a Mac and it turned that it was a updating program called Growl (look in the system prefs) that HP subscribed to. In the HP prefs of Growl you can turn off the notification and the low ink warnings will no longer show up on your screen!

Re: Low ink warning driving me crazy

Hi,

I have an L7680 with the same problems, but with a twist... Because ink is SOOO expensive, I purchased a continuous ink supply from Universal Ink. I do get the 'low' ink indication with each print, and occasionally get the out of ink indication which stops all printing. For a long time I was opening the door pulling out the black ink cartridge and then reinserting it. After closing the door, I got a "Genuine HP Cartridge installed" message, and all was fine, but it was frustrating to do this up to several times in some weeks. Eventually my door latch broke off. So I now have to tape the door shut! I just went to eHOW.COM and may have found a solution with "how to stop low ink message on officejet L7680. The link is:

http://www.ehow.com/how_6398179_stop-printer-bugging-ink-level.html

I followed the instructions, and now must wait to see if it will fix the problem.

Actually, there are several similar answers that say to go to Start/control panel/printers (one click to highlight)/file (for Vista you need to press the alt key to get that bar to show)/select 'server properties'/advanced/ and uncheck BOTH 'show info on local and network printers' I'm paraphrasing. Click okay and your done. There is also an answer to stop ALL messages, but it includes a warning that it may stop the scanning function, etc.     I Hope this helps me and you!

Re: Low ink warning driving me crazy

I'm using an HP OfficeJet 6500 on a MacBook Pro OS 10.7.4. Here's how I did it:

1. Open HP Utility
2. Select "All Settings"
3. Select "Message Center"
4. Near top right, select "Settings"
5. Change your alert settings.
