MS Works Incompatibility

I just bought a Photosmart D7260 and I am experiencing a familiar problem  I had a very similar or perhaps identical problem with my HP 980C or my HP 845CThe problem is showing up in MS Works.

When I click on the Print button I get a memory low messageEVERY TIME

I have to go into my Control Panel Printers module in order to change the printer between Portrait and landscape because it will not change in the document.

When I do change from portrait to landscape I find that sometimes (not always) it will only print about 8 inches wide.

When it happened with the previous printer, it was a quick fix with help from the HP tech. Unfortunately I do not recall what the fix was.

DOES THIS LOOK FAMILIAR?

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

Microsoft has acknowledged that this is a problem with works, and have released a patch for specific versions. you could try searching for it at microsoft.com. or you could post the M$ works version number, and let us find it for you. just search for 'out of memory'.

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

I will try to search the Microsoft website but if you can also steer me true I have a better chance.

I am using MS Works 7.0

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

Thankyou Dexter

I went into Microsoft and searched but did not find that area. I got a good laugh when I read about similar problems with 80 286 computers  It is installing right now.   My fingers are crossed.  It is very likely that the cure the last time was something very similar.

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

hahahah... interesting...

now, if the Deskjet 550c driver doesnt work, then use the Deskjet 990c print driver.

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

I did not try the emulation. After reading and browsing that artea, I believe that the symptoms described in the drivers update come close to my problem.  I downloaded and installed the new drivers with the fix. I have to restart and go in and try MS works.

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

I went in and set up the 550C emulation and it does get me past the problems with the low memory message and it allows printing portrait docs in portrait and landscape docs in landscape, but I noticed that the ink monitoring does not appear and the printer actually prints slower.  I may just choose the emul;ation driver when printing MS Works files and leave the Photosmart D7260 as the default printer.

I will return with an update when I have learned more.

Re: MS Works Incompatibility

yes. use the emulation driver only for printing from word. and i suggest you change the driver to DJ 990c for better results.
