Hey Whitetail201, you're not alone.
my C4780 has started making a similar noise.
If I don't shut it off, it will freak me out in the middle of the night.
I would also like to fix this frustrating problem.

Help, anyone !!!

Have you are performed a hard reset. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the WALL OUTLET. Leave it out for 30 seconds, and plug it back in. If possible, try to plug the unit into a wall outlet instead of a serge strip protector. This way the printer gets full functionality because it has its own built in serge.

Another suggestion would be to open the printer, and when the carriage moves over to take the cartridges out, look over to the right side of the printer and check for any paper. The banging usually occurs when the carriage is running into a jammed piece of paper.

Let me know if this helps, thanks.

Re: My Photosmart C4780 is making loud noise when printing starts

Rudy1906:

I have tried the hard reset but had no success.

When I went looking for small bits of paper I didn't see any, however it's quite dark in that right side

so I tried to feel around and discovered a big blob of grease-like substance in this area.

Should this grease be there? Should I attempt to clean this area?

Pls advise.

Vinny

Yes, try to clean this area. Use a lint free cloth with some water. NO alcohol or any type of cleaning liquid.

Let me know what happens, thanks.

Re: My Photosmart C4780 is making loud noise when printing starts

Rudy1906, I cleaned the printer as best I could but it still annoys me with the

grinding noise. What else can I try? Is this the time I should consider giving up

and adding this HP printer to the "Printer Bone-Yard"?

A very frustrated customer,

Vincent Monardo

Re: My Photosmart C4780 is making loud noise when printing starts

Dear Rudy1906,

Thanks for the advise.

I did contact HP with my problem and they offered me a replacement

printer at a decent price.

I guess this solves my problem.

Thanks again,

VinnyM77
