My new printer (HP Photosmart 7510) paper tray door is on a spring tension and will not close.

My new printer (HP Photosmart 7510) paper tray door is on a spring tension and will not close. Every time I close it, it simply slowly reopens. Should it close completely and stay closed?

Just bought the same HP 7510 yesterday and it does the same thing.  Should we return these units to the store since they are defected?

I returned mine to the store. HP was going to send me a new one, stock, minus the paper tray, printer cartidges, etc. I told them to hold off to see if the store would take it back and they did. Haven't opened the box yet to see if this one has the same issue, but that flap is definitely supposed to be closed.

I returned my to the store too.  The new one so far is fine.  Hope your is too.

A power reset may help that:

While the power is on, remove the power cord from the back of the printer. See if it will close manually. Wait at least 30 seconds, then connect the power to the back of the printer. Then power the unit on. 

If that was not successful, you may want to contact tech support @ 800-HPINVENT for repair options.

If you have an issue with the paper tray not closing make sure of the following items

1. Photo tray is completly seated properly, so the magnets will meet to keep paper door closed

2. Check to make sure that the magnets are still in place on both the photo tray & paper tray door
