My printer keeps going offline. I have it plugged in directly to my laptop.

No other computers run off this printer as this is my work computer and this is my work printer.  My printer is HP deskjet 6940 and my operating system is Windows XP professional. I can't print anything.  Sometimes, if I restart my computer it will print, other times it won't.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
