After swearing I would never buy another HP product I made the mistake of purchasing an Officejet6500 A after 3 weeks the USB port stopped working. I tried returning it to Staples but I missed the cut off by 3 days. They told me to call HP and they would send me a new printer. After being on hold for 20 minutes and transferred twice to people that had a slight grasp of the English language (no offense but these companies should not be classified as American, the product is manufactured in China and the service is in Indian....what part exactly is American?) I was told the best they could do was a reconditioned printer. This printer broke because it is an inferior product yet the best thet could do was to replace it with an even more inferior product. As the saying goes fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me...I've been fooled by this company now twice and I will tell anybody willing to listen to not even consider an HP product

It is hard to find a question in your post. The cartridges were designed in the USA and AFAIK the firmware was done in the USA.
