Need Vista driver; HP doesn't have one

I have a rather old HP Photosmart 1215 printer, which has been connected to a Windows XP system.  I would like to move the printer to a system that is running Vista Home Premium.  Unfortunately, HP's website says they don't have a Vista driver for that printer.  They do, however, have a driver for every other Windows operating system going all the way back to Windows 98 and NT 4.0.  Would any of those older operating system drivers stand a reasonable chance of working within the Windows Vista OS.  If so, which one might offer the best compatibility?

The question has been asked before, see this thread for instruction on installing the Deskjet 990 driver which works well for printing with the Photosmart 1215 in Vista.

I'm seeking help as well, in order to make my printer work.  I have a Compaq IJ1200 which still works fine.  I now have a new hp laptop with Vista (there is no driver available for vista).  I was unsuccessful at installing the driver for older versions of Windows, in an attempt to get the old printer to work with Vista.

any help please!  I HATE to buy a new printer--what a waste of resources and money when this one works fine!!!  thanks!

Use the Lexmark Z42 Vista driver for the Compaq IJ1200.
