Officejet 6500 All-in-one - black line down page

Our newly purchased Officejet 6500 All-in-One is producing pages with thin black lines running down the page approximately 2/3 the way across the page ( right hand side of the page).  Is there a solution to the problem?

Re: Officejet 6500 All-in-one - black line down page

The cause can depend on how these prints are being generated. Is this from printing, scanning on the glass, or copying through the ADF (automatic document feeder)?

The prints that have the line down the page are generated through ADF.

The glass in the ADF may be dirty. Follow the instructions in this document concerning cleaning of the ADF glass strip. It is about half way through the document:

I also am having a problem with a black line down the right hand side of the paper when I use the ADF. I have cleaned it as outlined and still have the same problem.  Any suggestions.  This is a brand new printer so it's very annoying.  It worked fine for about 15 copies and then the line appeared.  Any suggestions welcome.

If you have done everything in that document, and the problem still exists it is time to call 1-800-HPINVENT. Let them know that you have been using document #c01612462 to try and solve the problem.

Re: Officejet 6500 All-in-one - black line down page

I had the the same problem my ADFafter using it for about a year. I solved it using HP's solution referred to in the next post."cleaning the HP All-In-One" In normal room light, I could not see what was causing the streak. Then I shined a flashlight on the ADF glass and saw a tiny speck of dirt on the glass at the position where the the streak was occurring. I rubbed that spot vigorously with a damp cloth until it was removed. The scanner works very well now ,

This was only happening with ADF.  After several cleanings with no change I found this forum.   After reading about specs on glass I went back and realy cleaned the glass.  This cleared the problem.  Thanks for forum.

Re: Officejet 6500 All-in-one - black line down page

Just saying "Ditto" to cleaning the ADF glass.   Per HP on-line instructions (link below), I thought I cleaned it but the line didn't go away.  Then found the forum answer above (THANK YOU!!!) that said to take a flashlight and look very carefully at the spot on the ADF glass where the line was appearing on the paper.  There it was -- a little tiny black speck that I had to get off using my fingernail.  That was all it was!  Now I have clean copies and scans again with no line.

Here's the link below to instructions on how to access the ADF glass.  It takes a good, gentle pull to lift up that 2nd piece but it will open up all the way.
