Photosmart 3210 mechanical problem- repairable or not?

[ Edited ]

my Photosmart 3210 printer access door was lifted to change ink cartridges and the door is stuck in the fully opened position.  There is no allowable movement at all.  I depressed the small button switch (which the door would when closed) and the screen message was that it was going to continue printing ( I may have opened the machine during a printing operation).  I cancelled all printing, have shut power down and let it reboot to no avail. This has been an excellent printer and in great shape, 4 yrs old, ser no [text removed for privacy]. I am very mechanically inclined and there is no movement in the hinges, no visible obstructions or breakage. Are there any electrical servos or such internally which have anything to do with the hinge mechanisms?  Is this worth ($300 originally) getting to a repair center or should I look for a replacement?

Thanks in advance for any response. (this is my 2nd posting)

Re: Photosmart 3210 mechanical problem- repairable or not?

Hi Wendy

I've recently had a very similar problem: If you lift up the main printer lid section, as if to change an ink cartridge, there are two black plastic hinges visible at the rear. Inside are two hefty little springs that push up against a lump of plastic that locks the beast at 45 degrees. Try giving a small squirt of WD40 or similar into the inside of the hinge front, just behind the little black screw head on each hinge. This is where the two plastic faces butt together. If "sticking" is the problem, then this should allow the lid to close. In  my case, the lid had been "over-opened" and the hinge pin had broken the plastic seat, which I mended with superglue and a pair of slim washers - but it's a complicated make-do repair.

Hope this is in time still and helps you with your problem?

Best regards

DJC

Re: Photosmart 3210 mechanical problem- repairable or not?

Hi DJC

My Photosmart 3210 printer's Cartridge door got jammed last night. I have taken the lead off all together. It seems to be a complicated job to put it back as there is almost no working space to enable one to plug 2 ribbon cable back in. Any advice?

Thanks

Nasser

Re: Photosmart 3210 mechanical problem- repairable or not?

I found the same issue after removing the top of printer, these ribbons can be reinserted easily after removing the right side panel, that gives you access to the area where ribbon cables are attached to pc board. A T-10 torx screwdriver is needed to remove the two or three scews that secure the side panel, once screws are removed there is a tab (black) that needs to be depressed in order to detach the side panel. Hope this helps!
