Photosmart 6510 printing in red ink instead of black?

Why is my one month old Photosmart 6510 printing in red ink, instead of black after I changed the black cartridge? I'm using XP, and have tried the suggested remedies (cleaned inside, unplugged, updated utility).

Hello madisonkathy,

 

Please follow these steps to Clean the PrintHead from the product control panel.

  1. Touch Setup ( Wrench tool icon ) on the Printer control panel.
  2. Touch Tools , and then
  3. Touch Clean Printhead.

 

Now try printing your document, it should work.
