Photosmart C6180 jams in double-sided print mode / can't find paper in single-sided print mode

Have a Photosmart C6180 with the automatic document feeder.  It's been working great, but is having all sorts of issues all of a sudden.

Single-sided print mode:

- Just tried to print and the first page "printed" - but the page was blank

- Then it says "out of paper - load paper face down in Main Tray".  There is paper loaded.  When I slide the tray in and out I can hear paper stuck.  If I remove the automatic document feeder I can remove a stuck piece of paper.

Double-sided print mode:

- Whenver I try to print double-sided, a piece of paper gets stuck and you must remove the automatic document feeder to remove it.

I don't know if this is a misalignment issue that can be fixed or what it might be, but I can't print.  Is this something that can be fixed at home (I hope?) or is the only option to take it someplace to get it fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a C6280 so very simliar to yours, and it's been working fine for the past 4-5 months. But now, every time I do a double sided, it jams.. I have to remove the back duplex section, pull out the paper, and reinsert the duplex piece and then it just jams again.  Very very frustrating!

Most duplexers have a door on it also so that you can open it and look inside the duplexer and remove any jammed paper in there. Have you tried that?

Yes...every time..I can't see anything in there.... Maybe 1 out of 7 times it will duplex print correctly.

Are the rollers inside the duplexer and inside the printer rolling freely?

I sent mine in to get repaird and learned that it was not in warranty any longer and HP does not make parts for this printer - so the only option was to buy a new one.  What a joke.  So, that's what I'm doing.

Yes everything rolls just fine. Nothing sticking or anything like that.

I think printers are considered disposable these days....like VCR's have become now.  This printer isn't even a year old though.

For paper jams, follow these instructions.

If the printer 'can't find paper' or you get an 'out of paper' message when paper is loaded, follow these instructions.

Yep. Did everything in the video, every time.  The only thing missing in the video is when you throw the printer out the window since it's junk anyhow.

Followed the instructions and my problem was resolved.  I still like this printer.
