Re: Printer Disappearing from List

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

Re: Printer Disappearing from List

PC isHP pavilion Elite HPE 510 and is wired to LAN, Windows 7, 64 bit. Printer is HP photosmart Premium C 309, connected by wireless lan.  Note: This only seems to happen on the above PC. (two other PC's running XP seem fine)

No error messages, just every so often the printer no longer is on the list and must be reinstalled

Thanks!

Re: Printer Disappearing from List

Setting a static IP address solved this on my C309:

Re: Printer Disappearing from List

[ Edited ]

I have two different computers, my wife's is a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 SP1 under Boot Camp and mine is a Dell Latitude D830 also running Windows 7 SP 1.  Both computers were updated from Windows XP.  We have never used Vista.  We use an HP OfficeJet 7410 at home, and I use a different OfficeJet 7410 at work.  Both OfficeJets were installed with the latest HP software available on the HP Website and use a wireless connection to the network.  At home both of the computers also use a wireless network connection.  At work, I have an Ethernet connection to the network but the OfficeJet uses a wireless connection.  HP Update says all of my software is current.  Within the last month both computers have begun to share a similar problem:

The printers are fully installed and tested on both computers and run without incident, but when we change networks, one of the printers disappears from the Devises and Printers list.  If this occurs on the MacBook Pro (with only one OfficeJet installed), it generates an error message when you try to access HP Solution Center.  The error message states that the program is not fully installed.  The only fix is to reinstall the HP OfficeJet 7410 using the HP software.  If you simply "Add Printer" the printer is then available through Windows, but HP Solution Center still won't function with the printer.  (No scan, fax or copy capability.)

We first noticed the problem on the MacBook so I was blaming Boot Camp, but this morning, when I got to my office, the office HP 7410, which had been installed and working properly when I left two days ago, was no longer in the Devices and Printers list.  I had successfully used the home 7410 printer last night, and it is still present in my Devices and Printers list.  In the HP Solution software, the home 7410 correctly shows up as "Not Connected."  There is no mention of the 7410, that had been installed and is still connected wirelessly to the network here at work.

Please help.

Re: Printers Disappearing from List

My concerns fall into two categories.  The longer term and more troublesome I will hold back right now, and get to the meat of this set of postings.

For those who are missing an HP printer from their list, am I jealous?  Since we purchased and installed this HP 210Y I have never been able to print from it, locally or through our home network.  All the printers, when they were installed, disappeared.  This means not only an HP 1220 Laserjet, an HP 1500D, and an HP 6500 All in One Model 709n, but also Adobe PDF, Efax 4.4, Microsoft's XPS Viewer, Epson Photosmart 580, ...  Do I need to go further?  And, when I go to installed them again, I get access denied for installing as the sole administrator.  This is whether they are wireless, ethernet, USB, and all the rest.  What makes this more interesting is at first we could not print, then they disappeared, and then over the two years we could not even install again.

I have owned one Apple III and one Dell since 1982.  All the rest of my computer graveyard are HP's and Compaqs.  I have never had such a problem. These are desktops and laptops, and all from the home division as opposed to business division.

The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, which came installed when we bought it.
