I have a HP Laserjet 5P, old but running very well. It is hard-wired to a cable to plug into the computer. However, I now have a new computer, with no parallel port, and will need to talk with the printer via a USB port. Is there an adapter available that will allow me to plug the hard-wired cable from my printer into the USB port? My printer cable has 25 male pins, so I would need a 25 female pin socket attached to a USB socket. I believe that a cable (6ft) M501-1164 is available, but this would mean that I will have 12ft of cable between my printer and computer. will this lead to loss of data? Will I need new drivers if the computer talks to the printer via USB rather than via the parallel port?
Thanks for any help.

You need just one cable like this:

Thanks BH. I find that I've been a bit of an idiot. I thought that my present cable was hard-wired into the printer, but I have now found the triggers to release the casing, and hence release the cable.
