Prints alignment page every time

I just installed a new to me out of the box PSC1500. On the first print job of every session, the first thing out of the printer is a copy of the print cartridge alignment page; the rest of the job then proceeds as normal.  It's a waste of time, ink and paper.  How can I correct this?

The manual explains how to complete the alignment.  Once the alignment page completes you need to load the paper and press the scan button as described on page 48 of the manual here.  Once the alignment is completed it will not be needed again until the cartridges are changed.

I also have a Photosmart but it's a D7560 installed on my iMac. It has been 2 years since I bought it and it has not done much printing with the exception of alignment pages. I sure feel your frustration but unfortunately I can't help you. If you found a solution please share it. Thank you.
