Scanner Failure when trying to Copy on psc 750

I have an HP PSC 750.  When I try to make copies or sometimes just printing, I get the following error message...

Scanner failure.

Turn power off then on again.

Try the solutions in this document.
 It is not necessary to continue to the next solution, if one solution resolves the issue.

On my HP psc 750, I recently get message "Scanner Failure"  further directions say to turn off/turn on...I have...realign...only black prints the message "Scanner Failure" again....any ideas?

It is quite old but has never given any other problems...think it's dead??
