This printer will not print envelopes

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

Model:  CN579A

Windows 7 64 bit

When I remove all the paper from the paper carrier and insert #10 envelope and move the slides in around the envelope, it rejects the envelope without printing the return address and the addressee

Re: This printer will not print envelopes

Hi Tmnbernts,

I didn't find your Exact printer, though I did find the OfficeJet Pro 8600 User Guide under another model that is very similar.  The instructions may apply and may be helpful.

There may be an extra setup step that you can use to keep your printer from rejecting the envelope.

  • The initial envelope loading instructions start on page 25.
  • Envelope printing instructions start on page 36.
  • There are instructions for Windows and for Mac OS X.

I hope this helps!

Re: This printer will not print envelopes

Thanks again. My new printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, Model N911g. Network connected to HP Pavilion p6210y / 64 bit.
Got envelope printed by changing to plain paper in Printer Preferences. Hope it works as well in the future. Too bad one has to remove 8 1/2 x 11 paper in tray to load envelopes or print paper. I'm a photographer and print lots of pictures. Very inconvenient compared to my previou 6100 all-in-one.

Re: This printer will not print envelopes

Hi Tmbernts,

Yes, I've heard similar complaints about the trays and paper before on similar printers.  It saves parts, no doubt.  Harder on those of us who dislike all the hassle.  I do a bit of amateur wildlife photography myself and hate the printing part of it.  Smiling.

I did somewhat misrepresent earlier - I did find your printer, just not a direct line to the manuals at that printer's website.  If you need extra information for your printer, leave off the end bits, (just enter the Officejet Pro 8600) and you can find the Getting started manual and maybe a couple of other things of interest as well.

Here is the link to where you can download your printer's Full Feature Software.  Whether you have it or no, it might be a good thing to download the installation package to have in case you need to reinstall it at a later date.  Best prepared and all that..

Software & Driver Downloads - HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

  • Select the appropriate Basic Driver or Full Feature Software – if available for your printer Save the *.exe installation package on your computer -
  • NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “Install the Software / Driver installation package:  It will be named *.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.

I hope this helps!
