US Printer, Swiss Cartridge does not work

I have an HP Photosmart 4280 which I bought in the US a few years ago. I recently moved to Geneva and needed to replace the print cartridge 74 and 75. I bought 350 and 351 which the person at the store, as well as the package, stated was compatible for this model of printer. Well now I get a message on my printer incompatible print cartridge.

Can someone tell me how to resolve this.

You will need to Contact HP and have them perform a regionalization reset.  You may need to call, I do not know if the online chat agents have the capability to perform the reset.  You will need to have access to your printer and computer and will need to print a test page as instructed by the agent.

Some (all?) DVD players set a region after you use them a few times.  The HP Photosmart 4280 does the same thing.  Your printer is set to use US cartridges because you used it in the US for awhile.  If you buy your printer in one region and move to another, you have to contact HP and have the printer reset. There is no way to do this yourself - you have to go through HP support.

Since your printer is likely out of warranty and contacting HP would cost you money, I'd see if you can find the US cartridges for sale in Europe.

My understanding is that there should not be a charge for the regionalization reset, regardless of the warranty status of the printer.  Has this policy changed?

Sorry.  Good catch Bob.

After asking around a little more, I learned that HP will adjust the region on your printer if you contact them.  In this case, the printer may be out of warranty, but the cartridges are not. Since the cartridges are in warranty, HP will reset the region on the printer at no charge.

One thing that seems small, but should help.  If I was calling support about this issue, I’d follow the path for help with the cartridges – not the printer. That should speed things up for you.

Have you resolved your issue.  I have a Swiss bought 4280 and am trying to use HP74 and 75.  Let me know if you want to swap cartriges. I have new HP74 and 75 that I tried but get the same error.  I live in Neuchatel.  Leaving in 4  months, and will swap printers with you if you are interested.  contact me at lutchel@its.jnj.com if interested
