Just installed ver 13 update for my L7780 OfficeJet running on clean install of Windows7. Duplex/Booklet does not function even though it says it is installed. When duplex or booklet is selected it just prints single sided. The printer works fine on my other computer running XP and prior driver.   Your thoughts.

I just purchased an Officejet 8500 (no wireless) and have various projects that require printing landscape mode using the duplexer flipping the page up. This results in the contents of the even (back) pages being offset to the left, so that there is a 1/2" margin on the left and 1.5" margin on the right rather than centered. The odd numbered pages are fine. If I don't select the flip page up option, it prints fine. I spent over 6 hours with HP tech support last night, much of it on this issue and it was still unresolved. I have a VIsta computer and am printing from Publisher, though the problem also occurs with Word. I had no problem printing these documents to the Kodak 5500 printer I was hoping this would replace. Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise this printer is likely being returned.

When I run the standalone self-test on my Photosmart 3210 printer, the result page shows that the duplexer is installed. However, when the configuration page is displayed on the computer, the duplex installation status is negative (not installed). Running 32-bit Vista Home Basic with the latest driver. On my previous machine (running Vista Home Premium 32-bit [Lenovo desktop], except for the upside down problem on the even page, which was corrected by one of your recommended fix), duplexing was fine. Maybe the driver was an earlier version on that machine.

Hornett11,

What drivers are you using for the printer? Did you let Windows 7 install the drivers or did manually install them through HP software?

You might want to try to uninstall the printer, restart the computer and then allow Windows 7 to install the drivers itself.

I believe that the duplexing not recogized problem may be specific to Windows IE8. When I try to print non-PDF material directly from IE8 via the print menu selection in the Files pulldown, the duplexing adapter hardware is not recognized, but it is when print directly from the PDF file via its menu. On my previous computer, I was using Firefox 3.5 and up browser without any problem. In my temporary replacement computer, I am using IE8. Both computers were/are using 32-bit Vista. I will have to download Firefox and install it to check this out..

Update: I found that when printing directly from a PDF file using its print function, duplexing worked. I installed Firefox and found that I was able to duplex, but with the obverse page upside down. Installed the Vista Duplex Patch from Bob Headrick, which fixed the problem. Went back to IE8, and voila, duplexing when printing directly from IE8 worked!

Lesson: If you are running IE8, then install the patch! It will likely fix the no duplexing problem when printing from IE8!

Bob,

Under Win 7 Ultimate, I have been unable to print with my Officejet Pro K550dtn.  I mean I cannot print anything; only blank pages.  Have the properties set as you stated.  I know the printer drivers are not supported with dupdates, but this is a good printer that has given me good service and I want to continue using it.

Win 7 has installed a number of drivers.  Properties list the printer port as "USB001 Virtual printer  print..."

My CPU is AMD Phenom II X4 955 AM3,  MoBo GA-MA790FXT-UD5P,  GPU Asus EAH4890 DDR5.  Mem  4 Gbs. Corsair  Dominator.

Do you have any suggestions?

Dan

I recently connected my Officejet J5780 to my new computer with Windows 7.  When I print duplex the first side prints, the rest of the document sits in the queue waiting to print.  Under XP I used to get a window where I could click "continue" after turning first pages around.  Now I get nothing.

I installed drivers from HP website.  Printer connected via USB.   Need help.

I have a cp1160 printer with an automatic duplexer.  I just upgraded to Windows 7 and cannot activate the automatic duplexer.  When I go to the devices and printers, right click on the printer, choose printer properties, device settings tab ... there is no choice to activate the automatic duplexer under the installable options.  There is an option to allow manual duplexing which is enabled.
