Product details not really relevant, but will give them:
HP LaserJet P2055dn recently purchased to replace an older HP LJ model.
As the printer is conected to the home LAN it has access to a number of OSs, (32bit) Win XP-SP3, Win 7-SP1, and couple of alien OSs that also interface with it okay.
Question:
If I use the facilities installed, and want to check if the HP Software/drivers installed by the install Cd are the latest for this printer and OS, it will *not* do it because it wants Internet Exlorer.
I *don't * use MIE and don't want to, as my computers are set up to use Firefox.
Q1) Why does it need MIE?
Q2) Why are HP forcing users to use MIE?
Q3) More importantly, how do I get around this problem, considering I *won't* be using MIE?
Thanks
Arturox

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!
You can find the Commercial Laserjet board here:

Best of Luck!

Posted my question in March BTW.
Sorry JB., I don't understand your answer, as the HP app, regardless of commercial or consumer, forces the user to work with Internet Explorer... And that is the point.
If an app is so constructed to work through a browser, a third party app, it shouldn't confine the user to a particular browser.
Doesn't impinge upon my conciousness... Once I'd discovered this crassness in the app, I just ceased using it and moved on.
