c4450 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

printing to plain paper works fine every time

printing to cardstock starts printing on the top edge (no margin)

if i peel the top margin perferation then it prints somewhere else on the page

did i just buy a printer that cant do cardstock? if not then how do you fix it.

this is a hardware problem (brand new printer) not a software problem - does the same thing for every software pac that i use

Re: c4450 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

dear gizz...

you have bought a good printer.

go to printing preferance and try changing the paper type. i will work for you,

how to do this>>>in control panel >>printer folder>> right click on it>> properties>> printing preferances >> click on features tab>> click on paper type>>

here you would find a long list of paper type.. {i know that you will not find the one that you are looking for} so select the closest to the paper type that you are using.

then try to print

hope you would be able to print with this setting.

regards

Re: c4450 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

I recieved no reply to the posting and faught with it for a couple more days changing all the stting that i coud in relation to the paper type margins etc. and called HP Support

I used the telephone support, and the live chat support. the support that i recieved was so bad that i just packed up the printer and returned it. i dont care if it was the best printer in the world - the support response was such that i will prob never buy an HP printer ever again.

Re: j4680 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

I have the same problem - I can't believe it - I thought I was the only one.  I've been pulling my hair out.

I followed your instructions, but I don't have anything close to business cards under my paper type in the features section.  I'm using Word 2007.  Any other suggestions?

Many thanks.

Kellie

I used photo paper matte. that's the closest I could see as the cards stock is a matte finish

Re: j4680 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

I tried printing using a matte photo paper, but it didn't work.  My HP C4280 still prints without a left margin on Avery business card stock.

This IS a bug.  It has to be.  Why on earth would anyone build a printer by design that prints without the margin just because a different paper is used?  If I print with plain paper, it prints just fine.  But when I put in Avery paper, no good.

What is the point to this?  So that Avery makes more money from customers who waste business card paper?  So that HP makes more money from customers who waste ink?  I am not happy.  This should NOT be happening.

HP, fix this problem now.

Re: c4450 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

This solution is bogus as it does not work.  HP has a flaw that does not allow it to print business card stock.  I don't care what ~other~ paper you choose it doesn't work.

And for everyone who cowtows about "ewe business card paper is too thick" I say no way!  How can the printer grab up 2, 3, 4, 5 and more pieces of paper sometimes and still print on the first page ok? Huh anyone anyone?

Re: c4450 card stock (avery 8371 business card stock) margin printing problems

there is no fix for this except return your printer!  I tried switching the papertype to greeting card matte finish, didn't work.  I tried ripping off the top of the page to right where the cards starts, didn't work, i even called HP for tech support, and they were usless.  They took remote control of my computer and I had to tell HIM how to change the paper type and thats all he did!!!!  after i told him i did this repeatedly with many different paper types he told me that the paper was just too thick....we argued for a while, now im going to return my HP printer today, and NEVER buy an HP again!!!!!
