deskjet 820 CSE

Deskjet 820 CSE works correctly when locally connected to XP and Vista PCs  However when i connect it to W7 PC i am not able to get prints.  W7 recognizes printer and installs it.  Everything appears to be good.  Print requests will enter and exit the queue (like they printed) but will not.  Printer actually does not do anything...lights flash, make any noise.

Any ideas?

Are you using a USB-parallel cable?  If so make sure you have the proper drivers for the converter and that it supports Windows 7.

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

I have the same problem, the printer Deskjet 820CSE (connected on parallel port LPT1) works fine with my windows XP, but when I boot Windows 7 (64 bit version) it seems to install the required drivers, but it fails to print.

It looks to me that the support for HP deskjet 820CSE was never tested with Windows 7.

Is there a new driver that fixes this bug ? Evidently the basic driver in windows 7 is not working as advertised.

The HP support site states the following:

" A full feature software and driver package for Windows 7 is not available for your product. However, the Windows 7 operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product.
With the basic driver, the buttons on the product might not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. However, using the workaround procedures in this document, you can still print from a software program. You can also import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot.
Use the following instructions to install the basic driver in Windows 7, and then review the workaround procedures to use the available features for your product.
Configure Windows Update to automatically search for updated drivers"

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

Yes, Bob I am using a USB-parallel cable.  The device is seen and it recognizes the Radio Shack cable.  If I am able to simply plug this printer in with a USB-parallel cable on my XP machine and it works but does not on my W7 then am i just to assume it is not supported?  I have also tried to use the original parallel cable with same results so I have to believe this has to do with the printer not the cable.  What else do you have?

Hoping for a working suggestion because I know the printer works just fine.  Issue is related to W7.

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

Do you happen to have the 64 bit version of Windows 7 installed?  I recently found that the 64 bit drivers for Vista and WIndows 7 for the Deskjet 710 / 720 / 810 / 820 and 1000 have an error that causes the spooler to crash.  I do not know of any workaround for this issue.  These printers will operate normally in 32 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7.

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

Yes I have the same problem with windows 7 (64 bits version), the spooler stops when I try to print to my HP deskjet 820 CSE connected to my LPT1 parallel port.

On the same PC I can boot windows XP and the printer works fine.

Can we get a fix for this issue ?

Thanks.

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

I found a work-around.  I went to edealinfo.com and and found a Epson NX510 wireless network printer and connected it to my LAN.  Works great on both PCs/both platforms.  Deskjet will just be connected to "kids" computer for them to play with.

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

Using a different printer may be a workaround, but does not solve the problem with the HP deskjet printers.

On my PC I have Windows 7 Professional (64 Bits) and windows XP professional (32 bits) I can boot either system.

I also have 2 printers, an HP Laserjet 1020 on a USB port  and the HP Deskjet 820CSE on LPT1 parallel port.

Both printers work fine with windows XP (32 bits), but with windows 7 (64 bits) the spooler crashes every time I try to print to the HP 820CSE while it works fine on the Laserjet HP 1020.

The HP 820CSE driver is included in windows 7, but clearly it doesn't seem to work with windows 7 (64 bits version).

I did not try installing the 32 bits version of windows 7, so I cannot tell if the problem is just on the 64 bits version or both.

Since the same problem seems to be affecting many different HP deskjet models I think HP with Microsoft should fix this issue.

So far I did not see any new driver available to fix this bug on the deskjet 820CSE.

Any new input will be appretiated.

Thanks

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

B.T.W.

I verified the the problem with the spooler crashing is only happening on the 64 bits version of windows 7.

The same printer HP Deskjet 820CSE works fine with windows 7  32 bits version.

It looks to me that they need to fix the driver for 64 bits version of windows 7, apparently it is a common problem to may different HP deskjet printers not just the 820CSE..

Re: deskjet 820 CSE

The 820 Cse printer does not work on the Vista platform even though the HP web site says it does. I have been looking at this issue all day and have been unable to come up with any solution. It seems though the issue is tied to the 64 bit version and as previously stated would ask that HP come up with a fix so this printer can be used.
