deskjet D4260 on Vista 32-bit won't print in color, test page shows color perfect

[ Edited ]

Our deskjet D4260 has previously printed fine.  Had a faulty hp cartridge (hp replaced it) and meanwhile set default to black and white.  When we installed the new hp color cartridge the test page was perfect but we can't figure out why we can't get anything to print in color now.  In control panel we set everything to color (defaults, etc) but still no color printing.  Please help.

Hi JoyDawn

Sounds like the settings are stuck in black and white mode.

You have two options here, the first one is to unplug the unit by the USB cable and then click start and go into the control panel and delete the printer. Then plug the unit back in with the USB cable and let Windows installl the printer again that way.

The other option is to uninstall the software and reinstall it from over which i might add will take time.

I would choose the first part with deleting the printer and letting Windows just add it again for you.

See if the above helps. If not could you tell me which program you trying to print from?

HI,

You might try the following:

Click on Start, Click on Printers, Right click on your printer (Deskjet D4260) and choose Printing Preferences.

Go to the Color tab.  Check to see that the box that says "Print in Greyscale" in un-checked.

See if that helps.

Yep, I had no choice but to uninstall all programs associated with hp printing.  I restarted the PC with printer unplugged.  Then I reinstalled the software before attaching USB and powering up the printer.

It works perfectly.

Thank you.
