hp deskjet 6540

I just had windows reinstalled on my computer, however, it will not allow me to reinstall my printer (hp deskjet 6540)..   It goes through the process and at the last minute it doesn't allow the install to take place.   I tried with both the cd for the printer and using the web site.   Any suggestions?????

What operating system?  Is the printer connected with a USB cable?  What are the error messages?

Re: hp deskjet 6540

Log in with administrative rights and try to run the downloaded file with compatibility for another OS, such as vista or xp (dunno what you got now, take it 1 step down) Clear any hp files from your pc first cause mine is conflicting right now. Couldn't install it on windows 7, HP cust service really sux! Had a note in the box stating to visit some windows 7 support site which really does nothing else but promote HP notebooks, no support whatsoever on the link. Still have to do a reinstall as vista 64..
