laserjet 3800dn shows 54.17 error. what does this mean?

The error says turn printer off then on. Have done that but error still shows. What do I need to do to fix the error?

Welcome to the HP Consumer Printer Forums.

 

Here is the troubleshooting available for your specific error:

 

54.XX ERROR

Description
A printer command error has occurred.
Action
  1. Turn the printer off and then on.
  2. If the message persists, contact HP support.
Since you have done step 1, powering down the printer & back on, then I would say you are left with step 2. Here is a link with HP Support contact info:
 
 
Also, for future reference, the Laserjet 3800dn is a Commercial product. I recommend posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.
